For the past few days we've been travelling up the coast. First to Inhambane, a charming town dating back to colonial times. It has a much more homey feel compared to the immense Maputo. But even the little towns of Mozambique are just swarming with people. I don't think anyone ever stays at home during the day. They're all out and about. Filling the towns with life.

From Inhambane we went up to Tofo. A beach paradise. We hardly realized what we were in for when we went, it was just breath-taking. Silk velvety sand. Thundering waves. Hammocks. We almost felt guilty for being there, when our main purpose for being in Mozambique is to help! We traded with a few vendor children for shell necklaces. It was lots of fun.

Then we headed further north to Vilanculos, which again was very nice and a lot more tourist-oriented than we expected in Mozambique. We boated out to the beauitufl archipelago and went snorkelling. We just loved our hostel -- Zombie-Cucumber-- and the owners. Not to mention the amazing food. We stayed an extra day there almost excusively for the Sticky Toffee Pudding that was on the menu for the next day.

And now we're back in Maputo, geared to head the Zimpeto orphanage tomorrow. We're so excited! Now that we've got a feel for Mozambique and its people, we're just aching to help out in some way.

Sorry, we have some pictures, but they're not properly uploading to this website for some reason.

The pictures of Tofo look absolutly amazing. What I wouldn't give to be in that hammock right now. Sounds like you two having a blast though. If you see any cool rocks make sure you bring them back.

Thanks for the Father's Day postcard you sent from Worthing Elise. They just showed it to me today. I'm home sick in bed for the weekend, paying for a great whirlwind trip to Israel.

Look forward to hearing a lot about the orphanage.

Love,
Dad

Hey girls,

It's great to see all these photos, you guys look great! Mindy, I like your writing style. It's something I could learn from. Nice, short sentences. (If you didn't notice I just replicated it in the last few phrases, my sentences are usually a paragraph long - kind of like this one ;) Hope you're having a great time in the orphanage, I can imagine that it may be a bit crazy. Lots of kids, lots of attention to give, lots of piggy back/shoulder rides...

Love you and miss you,
Katherine

Hey Mindy and Elise:

Sounds like an amazing experience so far. I will continue to be thinking of you both as you continue this unique journey. As much as I can, I will be checking in to your blog.

You girls! Heading off to Africa to serve others, and end up at beach resorts all over Mozambique!!! Or so it would seem from your pictures! Anna and I have decided that if we could swim in ocean that looked like that, we would give up our silly prejudice in favour of lakes. Girls, it looks like such a beautiful, beautiful country, and I love how you're hanging out with the people already, even before hitting the orphanage. I hope it's treating you well, and that you're being filled even as you're (no doubt) pouring out into the kids. I love you girls! Miss you tons.

So, girls, when is a new post going to come up? What kind of orphanage is this, that it should lack internet access?

I mean, hi, hope you're well, etc.

I don't know if you should imitate that style, Katherine - at least not if you take yourself to be imitating a pattern for sentences, since most of Mindy's 'sentences' lack verbs; but in fact you've gone beyond even that and begun employing winking smiley faces as punctuation - clever.

Also, Elise, regarding our earlier exchange, I think I sort of misread your letter. Turns out maybe you did have at least crude idea of where Botswana was after all...

Incidentally, or anyways a further incidental matter: I got an email the other day from Carol Moermon (about the contents of which email we will have to have words, you and I), and she said that you showed them my blog. I don't have a blog. So what are you telling or showing people about me?

BRENDAN!

You insult someone every time you comment! First, we're sissies; second, you put down Mindy's writing (which by the way she wrote in a hurry - that's why there are sentance fragments); thirdly, that Katherine is using winking faces, which it wasn't; I'm pretty sure that was a bracket with an accidental colan; then fourthly that I don't know where Botswana is.
You have to be careful, Brendan, or people won't believe me when I brag about you...
I think we do need to have words when we're both home. Especially regarding the contents of this email you received from Carol. hehehe, can't wait!

Oh yeah, thanks for posting
love, elise

ps- sorry to everyone who I'm not responding to - I just felt like this had to be dealt with publicly.
